I asked him to list his typical activities during the day and estimate the time spent on each. Then, without his knowledge or input, I asked his secretary to do the same. The two lists were uncorrelated, upside down! He was amazed when I showed him his secretary’s list and all of the time he spent of ineffective office visits and similar interruptions.
p.s. In those days (I’m now 83) I read all of Peter Drucker’s books: Peter was my go-to mentor in print, the “Effective Executive” my bible.
